For a Manager – MBA-HR/MPM with 5-8 yrs experience
Project Lead - MBA-HR/MPM with 2-3 yrs in team leading
Rest other posts any graduate with computer literacy

4. What are the 3 most important qualities you are looking out for in a good recruiter in your team?

There are several qualities I will be looking in my team member. But following are the three things which are the basics of all desired qualities (as per me) & if he/she has so, I can train him/her for other ones easily.

 Good Listing Skills,
 Quick Leaner,
 A vision for his Life

5. What do you think is the best way for you of checking these skills in a prospective candidate?

 Body language,
 Hobbies,
 Constituency
 Family Bonding

6. If you were to select a fresh graduate for the role of recruiter in your organization, which achievements/subjects would you look at?

I would prefer a candidate having good records in extra curricular / Co-curricular activities.
Other than academic

7. What do you consider most challenging in a recruitment job?

Well everything is challenging & has its own value. But finding a right candidate within TAT is the one which is above all challenges & is the only thing which makes you different from others (in this industry).

8. What kind of training do you provide a candidate before putting him on the job of a recruiter?

 About Company
 Our Vision
 Sourcing channels, Getting references, Interview Coordination
 Client management
 Candidate Management/Churning
 Report making

9. Do you think fresh MBA (HR)/MPM students are best equipped to take up the role of a recruiter?

Cannot say depends on individual expectations

10. Do you think that MBA students are too high on expectations without having the requisite skills and experience? Have you ever experienced any expectation mismatch with such fresher in your HR team?

Yes.

11. What are the important HR job-related traits which MBA students are mostly missing out on?

MIS making, Convincing skills, Target orientation, & the most important Working as a team MEMBER rather than leading a team.

12. If you have to choose between a fresh graduate with the desired recruiter qualities mentioned by you and a regular MBA (HR) student, what will be your decision and why?

I will prefer a fresh graduate with desired qualities rather than a MBA student. Reason, a graduate will have less expectations & will pursue a long career with the organization. He will understand that he is yet to learn several things; whereas general mentality of MBA students is just opposite to this, most of them think that having a MBA degree is enough to manage people. Also, the MBA person may not feel comfortable if asked for continuous tele-calling & other front line jobs.

13. What is your view on the future of the recruitment sector in India?

I believe India has much scope for recruitment industry but the traditional approach is going towards saturation. Many consultants are working & all are doing the same. Hence, an organization planning to enter in the industry should have a different approach & services for the clients.

2. What is the structure of your recruitment and selection team?

Would not like to disclose.

3. What is the kind of qualification one must have to become a part of your recruitment team? (Please write down the desired qualification for different posts)

Preferably a Post Graduate in HR with any graduation background.

4. What are the 3 most important qualities you are looking out for in a good recruiter in your team?

A) High energy levels.
B) Passion for recruitments.
C) Ability to handle multiple positions at any given point of time.

5. What do you think is the best way for you of checking these skills in a prospective candidate?

A) Achievements in the previous job.
B) Volume of recruitments handled in the past.
C) Reference checks.

6. If you were to select a fresh graduate for the role of recruiter in your organization, which achievements/subjects would you look at?

A) Consistency in academics.
B) Level of confidence he / she displays during the interview.
C) Sense of urgency.
D) Willingness to learn.
E) Communication Skills.
F) Extra curricular activities.

7. What do you consider most challenging in a recruitment job?

Passion for recruitments is the key. If this is there nothing is difficult.

8. What kind of training do you provide a candidate before putting him on the job of a recruiter?

On the job training is the best way for this type of position.

9. Do you think fresh MBA (HR)/MPM students are best equipped to take up the role of a recruiter?

Not necessarily. Even a smart, plain graduate can do this. The only advantage an MBA would have is the theoretical knowledge of the subject. And may be some practical experience during summer internship if he / she has handled recruitments during the project.

10. Do you think that MBA students are too high on expectations without having the requisite skills and experience? Have you ever experienced any expectation mismatch with such fresher in your HR team?

In quite a number of cases you would find MBA's are not too comfortable to work at grass root level which is essential for an HR job. They want to work at strategic level without spending too much time into ground realities.

11. What are the important HR job-related traits which MBA students are mostly missing out on?

Customer orientation (internal customers)
Practical aspects of HR.

12. If you have to choose between a fresh graduate with the desired recruiter qualities mentioned by you and a regular MBA (HR) student, what will be your decision and why?

Will depend upon the level of the position. If at junior level, then the fresh graduate will fit the role. But if at a mid level, then MBA would be preferred. But scope of exception is possible.

12. What is your view on the future of the recruitment sector in India?

In a slow economy recruitments would be definitely slow. Demand will be far less than the supply. Outsourcing will be the model which most companies would go in for cost effectiveness. Retention would be key focus in such times.

But in case of a growing economy, recruitments will be in big numbers and the salary levels will touch with the sky.

But this will again depend upon the sectors. Few profitable sectors will continue with their hiring spree inspite of a slow economy especially if the companies are in their growing phase.
Stable companies will go slow on recruitments and will try and improve their processes and productivity.

I would like to conclude that recruitment is here to stay due to abundance of human capital available which is crucial for India's growth phase. Cost effective & innovative recruitment methods will be the key factors to create a win win situation for the industry and the human talent of this country.

Questionnaire on Recruitment & Selection

1. What all tasks do you perform under recruitment & selection?
• Final HR interview.
• Salary negotiation.
• Addressing queries on compensation etc.

2. What is the structure of your recruitment and selection team?
We have a separate recruitment team who takes care of all domestic and international recruitment drive. From employee requisition to joining it’s this team’s job to ensure that the best fit is sought.

3. What is the kind of qualification one must have to become a part of your recruitment team? (Please write down the desired qualification for different posts)

An MBA is a must; experience varies from designation to designation. 5yrs relevant experience and above get to be Deputy Manager and above. For technical recruiter position, engineering graduates are also considered.

4. What are the 3 most important qualities you are looking out for in a good recruiter in your team?

Excellent communication.
Handle Pressure
Market intelligence

5. What do you think is the best way for you of checking these skills in a prospective candidate?
Set of open ended behavioral questions and psychometric testing.

6. If you were to select a fresh graduate for the role of recruiter in your organization, which achievements/subjects would you look at?
Past initiatives taken (like participating in college events, Spic Macay etc, communal activities done, grooming course pursued).

7. What do you consider most challenging in a recruitment job?
Pressure, short deadlines.

8. What kind of training do you provide a candidate before putting him on the job of a recruiter?
Introduce them to the process in the company. Discuss their KRAs and expected job outcome. A small gap analysis is done for technical recruiters to assess their technical abilities.

9. Do you think fresh MBA (HR)/MPM students are best equipped to take up the role of a recruiter?
Its hard to say that, its more to do with an individual`s aptitude, some like to face challenges and are good under pressure, some like laid back desk jobs.

10. Do you think that MBA students are too high on expectations without having the requisite skills and experience? Have you ever experienced any expectation mismatch with such fresher in your HR team?
Yes, acc to latest trends there are a lot of B schools who charge high and create a fancy environment for MBAs which sets their expectations very high (Eg: IIPM gives a laptop and a foreign tour, so a new joiner expects nice accessories at work).

11. What are the important HR job-related traits which MBA students are mostly missing out on?
Practicality, there is a lot in books that needs to be unlearnt and it takes a long while for them to understand the real world. Eg: normalization must follow a bell curve, but in actual scenario 75% companies don’t have perfect bell curve post normalization.

12. If you have to choose between a fresh graduate with the desired recruiter qualities mentioned by you and a regular MBA (HR) student, what will be your decision and why?
It depends on the capabilities of the person, if both are equally capable, MBA gets an advantage.

12. What is your view on the future of the recruitment sector in India?
It will enjoy same prime status as Marketing & Sales department does in any firm. Its the lucrative stream of HR, recruiter can work from home and makes more money than an HR generalist, so more and more people will seek recruitment jobs.
